Americans do realize that other countries actually have censorship, right?

This shit is awful - latest figures from the Pew Research Center show that the majority of Americans don't trust news organizations, the lowest number the center has collected in more than two decades.

What the fuck, people? America, as much as I hate to admit it, is one of the only countries in the world with a free press - and you guys have to shit all over it? I can understand hating on FOX News or something, but not even having faith in the New York Times? That's just bad. And worries me even more for my future in this field (bites fingernails, cries).

Here's the report itself, and some excerpts from the Post brief on it:

Public respect for the media has plunged to a new low, with just 29 percent of Americans saying that news organizations generally get their facts straight.

That figure is the lowest in more than two decades of surveys by the Pew Research Center, which also found just 26 percent saying news outlets are careful that their reporting is not politically biased. And 70 percent say news organizations try to cover up their mistakes. That amounts to a stunning vote of no confidence.

While most weren't familiar enough with the New York Times to express an opinion, 39 percent of Democrats and just 16 percent of Republicans view the paper favorably.

And in other shitty media news, this story by the Post lays out how, if "The Jay Leno Show" is crappy, it may have a negative ripple effect on local news outlets that have their nightly 11 p.m. broadcasts. Cool! God I should just really go to law school or something.
